The first invoices by Foolproductions.nl in the first years of the century, were all related to helping to build, produce or performing as a DJ at Drum & Bas-, House- & Techno parties in the local scenes of Hilversum, Amsterdam and Barcelona. Though from the start I had plans to invest in the creative part of my company as opposed to the technical knowledge that first payed off, time was short for me to learn and trust on the quality I believe I should deliver.

And quality in Creative endeavors is quite different from quality deriving from technical skills. In 2020 I finally took the chance to invest after some successful film- and  video production being the creative producer.

Preparing for the next step, I always want to learn. That is why I went to school and got certified as a 3D producer. Though practically, we learned to work with Maxon’s Cinema4D at College of Mutli Media Amsterdam, theoretically they took us on a trip to understand how 3D came (historically) in existence. And like television production through The Media Academy, it is the best foundation to understand technical challenges and estimate possible workflows. Though over time I go in at the deep end in detail, I enjoy having the ‘generalist overview’ when push comes to shove.

To better understand the Creative people I worked with and because my job allowed me to do so, I got advanced understanding of all Adobe programs. As of a very broad range of server and client solutions by Avid & Protools and other commercial  ‘closed source’ software solutions. I have been monitoring and testing the Open source variants for years and since 2018 they made all the necessary progress in their user experience to match an advanced creative souls demands. I am happy to say I made the step over to Blender, Inkscape and Gimp in the open Source community. Equivalent to After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop, though they still have their step ahead in favor mostlly.

Creating the websites you may be clicking through at the moment, is open source WordPress like other software and Linux I mention here before. All of these products are beginning to find new ways of gaining revenue for the work of the developers. Going straight in that other direction from start, starting in the old commercial world and innovating their business model to the new, is Black magic Design for example. I fell in love with their Video editor Davinci Resolve though Kden Live (Open Source) is closing in to a perfect alternative. In hardware Black Magic Design has been in the front lines for the creatives since the start of the digital revolution.

Mean while Fool produtions have entered the arena of the visuals after a decade or more of music, dance and sound experiences. Some jobs payed pretty nice, most of them ‘Open Source’ like the 48 Hour film Projects I joined and won with the team. And recently in Spain I was able to catch the attention of a contractor. So now my 3D education is already paying off while I am beginning to discover the work of Architectural Visualization.

So whilst I invest in creating video, live or produced, life is ahead of me and brings me opportunity unexpectedly. This is how we work. And this is how we’d like to flow.
